Doncaster New Performance Venue is the focal point in the new ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’ Square which is part of the 25 acre regeneration of the towns civic and cultural quarter to the south side of Doncaster. The development also includes a 4 star hotel, civic offices and a residential development.

The venue features a 620 seat main theatre space, a second flexible performance space for 200 seated or 400 standing, dance and drama studios, rooms for learning, rehearsing and meetings, a café bar, a foyer and box office area that enjoys wonderful views onto Sir Nigel Gresley Square.

The wall that divides the main foyer and the auditorium is designed to resemble a stage curtain. The wall is curved in plan and also in elevation.

Horbury Building Systems Ltd specified Lafarge contour board, which bends onto the frame, and used its own joinery shop to develop the fins that bolt on to give the final billowing effect.

The Horbury Group of companies constructed partitions, suspended ceilings including SAS metal tiles, feature work to the auditorium and a feature wall measuring 24m wide x12m high curved on plan and in section.
